'''医療費が無料の国'''とは、医療費が全額、国民から徴収する税金を含めた公費によって負担され、個人がその範疇を超えて金銭的な負担をすることなく医療を受けられる国のことである。

== 定義 ==
全ての人々が、生命や健康を保護し維持するための全ての医療、病気や障害を診察し治療するための全ての医療を実質的に金銭的な負担無く受けられる国の事である。
通常は美容整形、人工授精・体外受精・代理出産、性転換などの、生命や健康を保護し維持するためではない医療、病気や障害を診察し治療するためではない医療は、医療費の公費負担率の算出の対象外となる。

== 現状 ==

これらの国々では、上記の定義で述べた全ての医療を受ける際に総合病院などの医療機関に掛かる医療費を国がその公費より全て負担し、個人が各医療機関に支払いをしなくても良いシステムが存在する。
これによって多額な治療費によって重大な疾患の治療を受ける事ができない、という事を避ける事ができる。
ただし、ここでの公費とは人々が政府に納付した税金や社会保険料を財源としているため、間接的・根本的な意味では費用負担が全く存在しないという意味ではない。

前述の通り、各国の公費には国民より徴収される税が含まれているため、医療費が完全に無料で受けられるという国は現状存在しない。ただし、公費には国営企業による収入、油田、天然ガスの輸出収入など税金以外の国の収入を考慮した場合、それらの運用によっては全負担を国が受け持つ事も不可能ではない。
